So first up, apologies for the unsavoury photo. I know it’s disgusting but hey, I had to make a point.
This week, we’re talking about crypto and why it’s like cockroaches. ERKS.
To be honest, I got into the idea of it from this YouTube video
Yea, same title and all.
Anyways, for a bit of context, I do invest in crypto. Just the major stuff like Bitcoin, Solana, and some of the other better-known altcoins.
I even work for a crypto company although we’re not a crypto project. We just provide information about it. Ironically, most of us (the employees) aren’t even crypto investors. We do however have a degenerate or two among us.
Unwelcome pests
I guess to most trad-fi investors, crypto could be an unwelcome pest. I mean, most of them think it’s not a real asset although their views are changing now.
It used to be thought that crypto was just a tool for the dark web and other sort of criminal activities. We still see that now as recently as the FTX crash. It’s easy money if you’ve got a criminal mind.
But now, especially since the launch of the BTC ETF, crypto has come into the light, especially to older investors with big money and that’s a huge step.
I used to be one of them. I was a stock investor for a long time. My portfolio was probably 10% crypto and 90% stocks or ETFs. But now, it’s probably around 60/40. More stocks than crypto but it’s getting there. I just see a lot of value in BTC.
It’s hard to kill
If you’re like my dad, somewhere between the age of a boomer and a millennial, you probably thought crypto was a fad. Something these younger kids are into these days but it won’t still around long.
But here we are in 2024, with BTC moving to higher heights every bull run. It’s crazy.
Well, the thing is crypto technology in itself is kind of indestructible. You can just get rid of it. As long as someone owns it, it’s not going to just disappear.
Bankruptcy is impossible for Bitcoin. Unless… it goes to zero. And I mean BTC is worth more than zero.
Wanna invest in crypto?
Well, my advice is DYOR.
Doooo youuuurr owwwwn reseaaaach. I can’t emphasise it enough.
Don’t just buy crypto just cuz someone said it’s heading for the moon.
Look into the project, see what it is about, learn about the technicals of it and see if it’s backed by VCs and then think long and hard if this is a good and sound investment.
But, if you can’t do all that, I’d say just stick to what you know. Whether it is Bitcoin or just the stock market. Only invest in what you know. That applies to everything you put your money in.
Hope this helps!
